Welcome to my latest blog post! I’m excited to share with you the incredible journey of transforming an outdated 70s dresser into a sleek and modern masterpiece. Join me as I take you through the steps of this DIY project that breathed new life into a piece of furniture that was stuck in a time capsule.

The Journey

The first step in this transformation was to bid farewell to the chunky brass handles and the worn-out finish that screamed “70s.” Armed with determination, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I lightly sanded down the old finish, ensuring a smooth and clean surface to work with.

Next came the exciting part – choosing the perfect color to bring this dresser into the modern era. After careful consideration, which really means 5 attempts at different colors, seriously. just look at the pictures! I opted for a crisp white shade of Rustoleum’s Linen White Chalk Paint for the body and Annie Sloan’s French Linen with Dark Wax for the top and bottom.. It instantly brightened up the room and created a fresh canvas for the transformation.

Even then I wasn’t quite satisfied. Those curves on bottom just weren’t doing it for me so I pulled out my husband’s jigsaw. With a few practice runs in place, I drew my lines and sawed off those curves to give it nice clean straight edge!

With the new color in place, it was time to add a touch of elegance. I carefully selected sleek, brushed gold handles to replace the outdated ones. The moment those handles were attached, the dresser underwent a stunning metamorphosis, instantly exuding a chic boutique vibe. You can find these exact handles and knobs by clicking the links.

The Result

The end result of this dresser transformation left me absolutely thrilled. What was once a relic of the 70s now stands as a testament to the power of creativity and a little elbow grease. The dresser seamlessly blends into its modern surroundings, adding a touch of sophistication to the room.

Embarking on a furniture makeover journey can be an incredibly rewarding experience. Not only does it allow you to save money, but it also gives you the opportunity to infuse your personal style into your living space. This dresser transformation serves as a reminder that with a bit of vision and effort, you can turn outdated pieces into stunning focal points.
